Agankast was formed in March 2005 by ex-Atomkraft guitarist Rob Matthew Redhead. Rob had been Atomkraft's guitarist and main songwriter alongside bass player Tony Dolan since the bands pro-conception in 1985 .Rob enjoyed great success with the 80s thrash metal band, living the metal dream for the following three years.. touring and appearing with the likes of Venom, Exodus, Slayer, Testament etc. Rob however left Atomkraft at the beginning of 1989 frustrated at the band's management and record label. Tony Dolan followed months later and Atomkraft soon folded.

Rob returned to Academic studies gaining honours in graphic design and illustration before spending the remainder of the 90s travelling the world. Rob relocated to Britain in 2002 where following Atomkraft's Anthology release on Sanctuary records he returned to Metal forming new band Agankast. Based in the Scottish borders, Rob recruited locally and got an early break with the discovery of singer/bassist Allan Scott (24). Allan had been in numerous local bands and had cut his teeth on the Scottish gig circuit with Galashiels dark metal band Death Certificate. Rob and Allan began writing immediately whilst also searching for the right second guitarist and drummer.

Drummer Drew Gill (18) was next to join Agankast. Drew had been recommended to Rob by the new singer who had worked with him in the past. Drew's drumming style fitted in perfectly to the band's no nonsense Old school Heavy Metal approach and the three began working on demo material. These early songs would go on to form the backbone of the band's now famous Mp3 page, free music that was generously donated as a promotion for the newly launched Agankast website. New songs like Butcher And The Clown and Gorotica allowed the critics and metal public alike to quickly understand the song writing quality of the "now returned ex-Atomkraft guitarist" and the formidable band he had assembled.

From the outset Agankast had set out to become a four piece, and only months after the bands initial forming a second guitarist was ready in the wings. Enter Ciaran Wright (18); Ciaran was discovered after numerous auditions across the Scottish Borders. Hailing from the Selkirk/ Hawick area, Ciaran was an instant choice as the final link to the band. His technical ability and speed of playing contrasted perfectly to Rob's own unique style.

Agankast had now emerged as a "powerful live band" and began touring around Scotland in autumn of 2005, this coincided with the band's self produced "debut release" entitled Dance of the Dead. Agankast ended 2005 on a high with the confirmation of Bloodstock festival 2006. A new second album was also being discussed. New songs were penned and Agankast began recording what they hope to be their breakthrough album entitled "Welcome to Insanitarium".

In May 2006, another band member change was about to take place. Rob decided the time had come to part with Drew as the band's work schedule and Drew's personal commitments were making things difficult. Drew still remains a good friend of the band. So with that, the band began looking for a replacement. Not long after, the band received an email from a drummer who was keen to join. James Savage (19). Rob and Allan had actually met James the previous year, around the time they auditioned and recruited Drew. The band knew they had struck gold with this super talented drummer. After totally stunning the band members at the audition, James was welcomed into the band. The band then went on to rehearse for the autumn.

In August, September and October, the band played gigs at places such as Glasgow, Wakefield, Birmingham and Bloodstock Festival. After the season's gigging was over, they decided that it was time to start writing another album. Another band member change also took place. Rob decided that he couldn't work with James any longer due to musical differences and therefore decided that his time in the band was up. James still remains a close friend to the other members of the band, Ciaran particularly. In December, thrash metal drummer Ryan Scott (17) was recruited to fill in the drumming slot.

In February 2007, Rob decided to step down as Agankast's guitarist due to the fact that he wanted to pursue other things. To replace him, the band recruited rhythm guitar whizz Steven Gray (19). The new album Walking With Angels - Running With Devils is now complete and is due to be released shortly.
