Plenty of empathic head nodding, tortuous screaming woven around spurts of melodies and some rhythmic riffery, join in choruses, done to lots of angular guitar riffs. Well that’s the overall sound that We Are Fiction are producing, but it doesn't describe the complexity of the multiple effects that they are attempting to produce, and which they make a good job of.
Opening the mini album is 'Bitch' with its pleading and final rejection, aggressive and a worthy opener to a screamo album, the second track Desire Lines, is screamo with bags of passion, incorporating quick slow and hardcore and melodic vocals, evenly spaced out, done well, the third track 'Talkin With Style' does indeed have more style then the two previous tracks with its tuneful guitar riffs and speed pedal hammering away in mental spasms, my favourite song so far!.. track 4 'Feed 'em the right Hook' a solid punky pop tempo screamo style, with very little method but conflicting vocals laid over each other before we get both sides of the argumentive side giving an airing to suggest thought to the title.
Track 5 and 6 raise the bar a bit with We Are Fiction obviously holding the best 'till last, 'You'll Never Guess' great 'core screamo, I’m a sucker when we get guitar clarity, with a huge head shaking inducing sound, 'This Life We Lead', continues but with a bit more aggressive tone contrasted with the second vocalist style which leans to a more melodic empathy driven sound, before the two coming together in solidarity.
So will We Are Fiction evolve, or wither and die, they certainly have gained attention with the quality of songs, can they write something that fans can identify with as they grow and mature..?
