The Album, I passed it around the gang for review, the first person I offered it too, said naw, without even looking at it, the next in line glanced at the playlist, raised her eyebrow, paused, I saw her contemplating as she weighed up whether should would lose any street cred ( I know her to well) "no it's all right", but thanks anyway.. ****, that means I have to review it I thought...
Ok here goes I thought, holding onto the true statement that music is subjective and I dont have to like all the bands or tracks to review a compilation album. So first up was Muse and 'Uprising' a good opener then we have Kasabian followed by Friendly Fires and Temper Trap.. I get it, the album is pandering to the intelligent people first, nothing to rebellious or rocking here, a thought crossed my mind am I a dumb crass rocker.. no, of cause not, I hold onto that thought as the Yeah Yeahs start up.. yeah I thought, wouldnt buy that!. Subjective, subjective phew.. ok Im not going to bitch anymore about the first CD, it is aimed at better people then me, 'sic' although I can't see why they would end the first CD with Gallows and their bril 'I Dread The Night' track.
CD Two opens with Scottish band Biffy Clyro and their 'That Golden Rule' one of the bands better tracks in recent years followed by Paramore and Ignorance.. hang on, is NME displaying some attitude, we are quickly followed by Green Day and Know Your Enemy, next up The Prodigy with Warrior Dance.. this is getting better and better Enter Shikari complete the first 5 tracks with their excellent No Sleep Tonight, next up is a change of direction but still keeping it rockin with The Horrors next the is The View, ok.. I know, I am just waiting for NME to show their true colours but Ian Brown continues the rebel attitude, but of cause Ian was the thin edge for the second half of the CD which goes back to the NME style and stuff your sister will listen too.
Ok so overall, a good compilation of music that saw the light of day in 2009, covering most genres, of popy to popular, obviously being NME there is nothing that will cause the foundations of your house to crumble and you won't find an excuse to start a mosh pit.. but if thats not you, then you will like this.. be grateful that the bods at NME have had such a grounded and precious upbringing that they can spot nice music like this.
