What a title, what does it mean, does it mean the sun, are thumpermonkey proposing a switch in cosmology, is the ancient sun god been usurped by the female.. am I getting to deep?, has Thumpermoney addled my brains?. who knows or actually cares, what does the music sound like.?
Think of Frank Zappa getting to grips with a King Crimson scenario and a Gabriel inspired oddness and we are getting closer to the truth, but what is the truth about Thumpermonkey, you couldn't cope with the truth my inner mind whispers. The partial truth is that this is the forth Thumpermonkey album to an increasing circle of secret fans, people who ache to be an intellectual but publicly play Heavy bludgeon progressive rock while once ensconced in private, whip out their Thumpermonkey for that intellectual gratification. The album has an underlying musical heaviness, but so do the lyrics, the lyrics are what one could describe as deep, heavy man.
Woodman use’s his melodic vocals to massive effect swinging between crooning to full blown rock god, down to careful measured swing style, sometimes in all one song. Musically the band are just as progressive creating complicated melodic diagrams and explosions in tight harmony with each other
The album opens with 'If it works for the cast of LA law, it's going to work for me' and drips with Zappa connotations, the other five tracks, yes! it is a six track mini album, that seems to encapsulate a months worth of experience in less then thirty three minutes and ends so gloriously quickly. I am going to have to buy the earlier albums now, and load up the auto-changer and spend the evening enjoying myself.. Time to play it again I think.
