In 2000 papa roach hit the big time with the epic “infest” release, with the mtv favorite track ”last resort” being the flagship of this cd, since then for me they have fringed the scene not being able to define a genre or sound that continued their rise, the nu-metal scene was slowly fading, the rock rap has only been maintained in fads , and to be honest, they fell off my radar and i-pod for quite a while, although having stable worldwide success with lovehatetragedy in 2002 , getting away with murder in 04 and the paramour sessions in 06 , the major turning point has been this years release of “Metamorphosis”, this said it all in the title, the album is awesome, their best offering by a country mile, with tracks “Change or Die” / Hollywood Whore” / “Lifeline’ / “Nights of Love”, the album takes you between great heavy metal tracks through to the sedate, and needless to say its still riding high on the pod play list, which brings me to the live date at wolverhampton.

Not having seen them properly for several years , besides my blind drunk download experience this year, I was looking forward to this, the civic hall is packed and is treated to a competent display by the support act “Madina Lake”, thus 9-15 arrives and hall is filled with the “Days of War” intro, followed by Shaddix asking the crowd if they were ready , well, by using a few choice words lets say, the band enters and go straight into “Change or Die”, it’s a great start !, followed by “Lifeline’ / “Dead Cell “, the atmosphere is electric , the enthusiasm / energy and presence of Shaddix is phenomenal ! , to say this guy doesn’t stop is an understatement, he ought to make a work out video, the sweat is like a tap from his chin open fully, he looks toned, fit and from the ladies reactions, they like the new look to, this band for me has transformed into a real high quality rock band, and what else makes it for me, is the fact there is no over the top video wall or pyro, they work with the rite amount of lighting with excellent sound , showing this band has nothing to hide behind, Horton on lead is impressive, the bass sound of Esperance is crashing, I cant find a bad word to say about Papa Roach really, I love the album, I love the live show, they have Metomorphosised, into sheer quality !
