This is a two track demo sampler put out by the band In Fictions, they have been compared to Editors, Porcupine Tree, Radiohead, Mew, The Cure.. so you can guess that they are stamped through with melodies and intelligent lyrics. What you won't know is how good are they and what level off emotional sophistication are they upto.
Judging by the two tracks on offer they probably compare favourably with any of the above named bands in musical and emotional content, although with a darker and rawer feel to the overall sound. The band members of In Fictions consist of former members of 65daysofstatic, Nine More Lies, Art Department and Saving:Mitsuko so you can see where the darkness has come from.
I must say that both tracks are pretty good although at polar ends to each other, The Cell has an infectious happy/melancholic melodies with a dark heavy undercurrent with meaningful lyrics well sung, while the second tune 'The Silence of the Sea is a wonderful atmospheric tune that builds up to invoke gentle drifting before exploding into surging waves and emotional broiling.
I do hope that they stick to the melodies in the main and leave the melodramatic atmospherics to a secondary roll in future compilations, as I think The Cell shows that they have the capability to widen their audience with the quality of their writing without been branded as commercial.
