I have to say that before listening to this song I worried that perhaps they will use some small riffery or mention of the old megahit – Americans have a habit of doing that, of possessing a self-awareness of their own fame that is sickening. It’s about the music, man! So yeah, the song doesn’t thrift from the old stuff. Good! I will review the second song from this release – the unedited version – standing at 5:05 long. There is a ‘single’ edit at 3:50 but let’s see the real thing first. The guitar riff that grunts into life at the start is axe slashing at its finest and is then joined by a second, wailing guitar line. A very upbeat start. Johnny Van Zant's distinct voice than grabs you – gravelly, clear and almost sorrowful. If this song is anything to go by, you have to say he is fighting back – that is the theme of this song. The uncut song has some excellent guitar riffery that you can listen to for a long time without getting bored. Johnny's gravelly voice still has that allure to me and if you’re here reading this, it probably does for you too. It’s a melodic, empassioned reminder of what Skynyrd can do. For me it’s more of a revelation! Didn’t know they could do it. As a singer though, much like Nickelback front man Chad Kroeger, I feel Van Zant could sing about potato farming and still create something resonating and deep. That is this band’s talent and you can’t help but fall under the spell. I advise you strongly to listen to it – it’s very straightforward, uncomplicated.
