Opening with 'It Shatters' the album explodes out of the blocks at full throttle, settling down into a short squirting riff with most of the excitement coming from the vocals and speed pedal, a good opener but I was soon to find out not the best track on the album. 'Twisted' was next up and this time we get a more flamboyant use of the guitars with a good mix of riff's interjected with twiddles and squirts which made for a much heavier darker sound then the opener.
The third track 'Through Fear' allowed the band to show through this six minute track that they have the ability to keep the audience interested with tormented lyrics and some great metallic melodies, Open wide is a decent album song with layered vocals that work well although the highlight must be the screeching shred for the last 30 seconds.
By now the album has warmed up and we get two great songs 'Regret' and The Age of Paranoia' which is the the title track, both songs display the bands strong points, Peet shows he can sing as well as scream and roar in Regret while again the writing skills
display a breadth of quality that few metal bands could ever master.
Severenth display quality through all eleven tracks on the album and the listener will get something for all moods, although I would like to have heard more from the two guitars they did complement each other well. It was especially pleasing to hear a good level of production in the album with the songs having a depth that on occasion almost felt 3D, but I still think there is room for some more improvement although it was noticeable that all the songs sound much better when played very loud, the louder the better!.
