Dream Theater - A Rite Of Passage

Dream Theater are one of those bands who never turn out a disapoinment, and it is always about how good is it?, well this track A Rite Of Passage is up there with their best, Not only have they got a nice little melodic riff that they use throughout as the bedrock of the song in different guises, they also bring in other elements that bring sparkle to the song and as you would expect the production and richness of sound is superb

A Rite Of Passage is one of six tracks that will be on the new album 'Black Clouds & Silver Linings' and at 8 minutes and 39 seconds is likley to be the second shortest tune on the album, with The Count of Tuscany track looking to be over 19 minutes long. This is the only track I have heard from the album and already I am getting excited.

I completely disagree with this. I don't think Dream Theater has done anything worthwhile since Train of Thought, and even that wasn't a great album. Their music has gotten so formulaic that it's actually painful to listen to. This song, which I heard on a sampler CD, is probably the worst Dream Theater song I've ever heard. It sounds like the same stuff they've been regurgitating up for the past 3 or 4 albums. And Rudess's solo just makes no sense in the context of the song. He throws 3 different kinds of crazy keyboard effects in there, as if to say he's bored with melody, and is switching to noise.
I'm saddened at how much Dream Theater has gone downhill. They used to be one of my favorite bands.

I guess you have just have not evolved with the band, music is always subjective and if you lost touch with Dream Theater some years ago then you are unlikly to re-connect, they are a lot more melodic now adays and I believe there music has matured for the better. The fact that this album has already out sold any previous album just shows how much their music is appreciated by music lovers and Dream Theater fans everywhere
