This is the first CKY album I have reviewed so not knowing anything about the band, I checked out the bands myspace and website, and I could see that they have a good following and so I was expecting some quality rock to enjoy, what I got was a total
surprise, by the end of the second track on Carver City I was thinking, god this is a badly produced album, as the two tunes 'Hellions on Parade' and 'And She never returned' sounded like a poor bedroom mix made up of bits of three or four songs that had been mixed to a standardised beat. So I listened to the bands older material to see if that is their gig?.
And certainly the bands older material was not chopped and badly mixed like the first two tracks on Carver City, So I went back to the new album and decided to listen to the whole album before passing judgement. they did list themselves as experimental which I suppose gives them freedom to be off the trail when it comes to what they do. The third song 'The Boardwalk body' was better and is comparable to the bands earlier material and is reasonable to hear although I am not sure about the sound affects squirted in here and there. The album improves but not in an impressive sort of way, but certainly doesn't no longer grate on the teeth
This album sounds like a distorted and badly produced poor mans Genesis of the late 1980's but with louder volume, in the sort of way that some people shout when they speak garbage in the hope that they might gain credence. definatly one for CKY fans
