Opening the album with a riff crafted around the smoke filled air of a camp fire Insanita open a void into the dark underworld where the manic anvil's of mythology sound forth and the devil's axe lets rips with a speed that defies dragonspeed and we are introduced to INSANITA'S latest offering to the world with Crimson Messiah and the first track 'Abadddon', with the second track 'Slave To The Grave' the scene is set with an evil atmospheric riff, double tap bass drums and frantic tapping cymbals 'Allan Scott' chanting vocal proclamations and with twin guitar squeal's that axe heads everywhere pant for.
I have already replayed the first two tracks rather then wait to the end and replay the CD!. Insanita have been crafting their own unique style incorporating thrash metal riffery and speed metal shredding and they are doing a very good fist of it, one of the most important skills is the ability to craft unique stupendous guitar solo's and these guys have that art nailed down so tight they must have signed with the very devil itself. The Celtic world has always had a reputation for dark and passionate metal and Insanita are flying that flag proudly with 'Crimson Messiah'.
The third track 'Crimson Messiah' keeps the speed flashing along with even more background twiddles and neck bending squeels but is built around a rolling neck jerking riff that encourages you to keep in time with the thrash bashing skins, Scott keeps the deliberate chanting style at medium pace to allow participation.
Speak To The Devil produces dramatic flourishes of short staccato but thunderous drums while it is obvious that the band have invested heavily in the lyrics to invoke sentiments, however dark that may be. As usual with Insanita most of the tracks are five minutes or longer which allows the band to provide proper starts, middle bits and a flourish for a finish. Razorwire the fifth track is another head nodding tune to please the converted,
with the sixth track 'Breaking Down The Walls' we continue with the squeals and rifferys but with a bouncy enjoyable feel as ALLAN chants "we are the Judge, we are the Jury, we are the executioners" I think he really likes this song!, throw in a huge guitar solo and we have a great song to drink and be bloody merry too! excellent stuff.
We return to the dark opening riff with 'Blinded' and the vengeance dripping words of a bitter mistreated people. 'Musick' ups the anti a few beats "we got, what makes you sick" chants Scott against a backdrop of squeals, amp feedback and licks, in 'Bonestorm' the ninth track we are treated to a dirty dark riff opening and the scary group chanting of Insanita before seduced with more fret climbing solo's. 'The Killing Time' is one of the few mosh pit tunes that the band have produced, invoking lethal aggression with its thunderous riffery and charging twin axe solo's
The album has ten official tunes with a hidden bonus track 'The Day We Died', Insanita prowl the Scottish borders with their brand of metal converting the natives behind the unstoppable madness of Insanita.
