Machine Head - The Blackening CD/DVD

Machine Head release a special edition version of their critically-acclaimed, masterwork, ‘The Blackening’ on 27th October. Hailed unanimously as the best metal album of 2007 by Journalists, metal radio stations and fans alike, it earned a Grammy nomination in the US for the fan-favourite track, 'Aesthetics of Hate'. The Special Edition’ is a two disc CD/DVD set that
features an assortment of extras, including rare bonus tracks such as covers of Iron Maiden's ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’

Rock3 have been sent a two track CD to tell you all about the revamped and bonus ridden DVD/CD release from Machine Head, but the fans already know that the album 'The Blackening' is a massive statement and has been argued the best album that Machine Head have ever released plus rated as one of the best if not the best metal album of 2007 when it was released.

So what does the twin disc DVD offer, and is now the time to become a convert?. Well the album contains two additional tracks, covers of Metallica's 'Battery' and Iron Maidens ' Hallowed Be Thy Name' when I saw the Iron Maiden song on the list I must admit that a little sneer crossed my mind because lets face it, along with Zeppelin, Maiden songs are so perfect anyone with the nerve to attempt to replicate the quality invariably fails embarrassingly and we usually have something that is best shoved down the back of the sofa, but I have to admit that they can look 'Harrison' in the eye with this cover and he will probably grin and give'em a pat on the back, it's good, musically I can't fault it, maybe Flynn hasn't got the high range that old Man Brucie has, but he has everything else required to deliver a metal classic.

Also on my sampler is the Halo track, an excellent song from the Machine Head album 'The Blackening' To bribe me with, and so what I can I say, if you have the original album then you are going to go and get the DVD version for the hours worth of live video footage from Download and the Rock in Rio plus the three music videos and behind the scenes filming of the 'making' of the album and videos plus additional bits of videos that fans will drool over.. phew, so much. To enjoy it, you have to go and get it!.
