Hail Of Bullets - .. Of Frost And War

Opening with a riff of menacing feeling and European war drums the debut album from death metal super group gets going. Based around the eastern front campaign of the Nazi war machine against Stalin’s Communists when two evil dictatorships went head to head which they arrogantly felt would decide who will rule the world. The band which comprises Martin van Drunen (ASPHYX, ex-PESTILENCE/BOLT THROWER) on vocals, Theo van Ekelen (ex-HOUWITSER) on bass, Ed Warby (GOREFEST) on Drums with Paul Baayens and Stephan Gebedi (THANATOS) on guitars.

So the band is set and the album recorded and with the name of Hail Of Bullets they embark together on their own campaign to dominate the Death metal genre through sheer fire power.

The first song on the album (after the intro) Explodes into massive head nodding mode, **** heavy riffs and marching drums before Drunen himself roars out the narrative setting the scene for the battles ahead. The track titles relate to episodes of the campaign and can background info can be found on the internet, good for your education!. The band itself produces Death Metal of old skool proportions and goes down well when cold and drunk hunched near a fire with your equally inebriated mates.

There are ten tracks on this album plus the intro, The album is full of quality death metal the riffs of the genre fully suited to massive explosions, salvos and ground shaking thunder while the quality writing would set the scene for each episode of the story of Frost and War. Track five,’ Advancing Once More' stands out for its crunching intro and huge deep head nodding salvos and non stop pounding of the skins that causes your heart to pick up beat and join in with the tempo while the low down backend makes your guts tremble!.

Track eight 'The Crucial Offensive (19-11-1942) sets the scene with some anxiety forming pummelling guitar work while the song itself rages through various stages of fear and sphincter releasing emotions before relief comes with a squealing guitar solo. The album certainly captures the moments and is a testament to the writing no more demonstrated with 'Inferno At The Carpathian Mountains' with its massive beautiful metal riff and Drunen's war roar before the music descends into frenzied mad metal belching riffery with apocalypse anvil drums while Drunen roars madness and rage out of the speaker, absolutely brilliant, where's my ****ing beer! The final song 'Berlin' and its melancholic feel and pleading lyrics of despair against the dramatic pounding drums of a war lost.
