When this album first started, I was immediately drawn to the music; fast paced, snappy and included a raw distorted feel. The vocals were quite unexpected and produce a sound which appears to be ska-rock based and the vocal lines very often mirror the guitar work. I didn’t think this sound would be something that I would enjoy, however I was pleasantly surprised. Track one ‘Pressure’ is a great introduction to this album and moves through a variety of musical sections. The vocals get thrown around throughout and despite lyrics being recited very quickly in places, it’s a worthy challenge to grab the lyric sheet and try to sing along (if you dare!). My personal favourite track on this album is track 4 ‘Dwarvesong’ who’s stand out lyric reads “We’re not that tall… but with my tiny hands I’ll grab your balls”. In the context of the song this is particularly amusing and it made me laugh nonetheless. Yes, this music is an acquired taste, but it mixes so many musical influences, it is hard not to find something enjoyable within it. Also, ‘Reflections’ is a track which features a guitar line from the vault of Marilyn Manson with his song Beautiful People, however this is merely an addition to the track itself which is powerful and raw. A very good album and well worth a listen. With notable band influences including Faith No More, Alice In Chains, Nirvana and Lord Dimebag, it stands to reason why the music content is as rockin’ as hell! I might also add that this shares aspects of System Of A Down in parts and similarities can certainly be drawn with the vocal. Check out their MySpace for more information.
