There has been much written about Opeth over the years and with the release of the bands ninth album 'WATERSHED' which took the band in a new direction with less death vocals and more singing from founder and vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt the band began to really show their qualities with more progressive sounds harking back to the glory days of prog rock but done in Opeth's metal style.
The new single 'Burden' encapsulates the bands new style with driving keyboards reminiscent of Procol Harum, the guitar sounding so beautiful you could be excused for thinking that 'Gilmour' has joined the band while Mikael shows on this track that he has a voice to match the best. Although edited down from the album length of close to eight minutes to a more manageable bite size of four minutes for the single, the song includes all the power and emotion squeezed down into a brilliant sounding song. If there was a progressive rock singles chart anywhere this is going to blast into the number one spot without doubt.
