Amon Amarth open their latest album with the title track Twilight of the Thunder God which is a melodic metal dash interspersed with gear changes and swirling riffs against a back drop of viking legend telling, all very much in the same vein as Dragonforce but with lots more meat.
The second song 'Free Will Sacrifice' shows the true Amon Amarth with their head nodding riffery and growling storytelling, while in a complete turnaround to Twilight of the Thunder God, the melodic section is sandwiched in the middle and bracketed by grimacing riffs. Continuing with the Amon Amarth style the third song 'Guardians Of Asgard' continues the legends of battle and war supported by a great head nodding riff that will have you bouncing along before clenching your fist to wave at the sky as you mouth the words of defiance along with Johan.
The album continues in this vein throughout with well balanced tunes that will encourage you to join in with the sentiments of glorious defiance against your enemies while the metal will have you stomping in glee.
All in all the ten tracks on this album are of a high quality and if you are wondering what tracks to cut for your ipod, be sure to have space for all ten because to leave any out of your listening cycle would be sacrilege.
