Braintoy - Vehicles
Toronto’s up and at you band Braintoy have released a full length CD with the power to blow your Doc Martins off. Vehicles is an inspiration for any band who consider themselves ‘progression’ using a range of sounds to combine to a truly spectacular musical innovation.
The title track begins the journey and as you listen in wonder you become aware you are about to experience something very special indeed. The next track is Computational Symptoms – a track I am desperate to hear live as it explodes into an eclectic collection of melodies, keys, powerful strings and mind blowing drums from the perfectly timed Riley O’Connor. Braintoy bring it down a notch in the wistful Banyan Tree with lyrics worthy of literary credit and soft strings teamed with beautiful harmonies led by Tristan Green. I loved how dreamy this song made me feel, despite the tortured undertones of the lyrical message.
My favourite on the album has to be the Grand Canyon of a track Charles Justice (The Ballad Of...). I loved the true metal guitars of Devin Gasteiger and Christian Anderson used not only in the beginning, but also to move the track forward throughout. To witness this live must be something very special indeed. Canada is very lucky to have access to this band first hand. I am waiting in hope they will cross the waters to offer the same opportunity over here.
As if the music itself wasn’t enough to set me tingling, the artwork on the album is the best I have seen for a very long time. Eric Staller, the man responsible for this, has captured the essence of the music perfectly with a strikingly effective collection on the cover and throughout the aesthetically pleasing package for the disc which holds so much promise.
Vehicles is available to buy direct, or through iTunes or Amazon. Some of the tracks can be heard via their myspace. Trust me, it will be more than enough to whet your appetite for the entire Vehicles experience
