When I first picked up this CD I suspected some sort of heavy 'The Kooks' cover, but I was (sadly, no) happily mistaken! The song starts off with some muted guitar scratching that is slowly joined by the other instruments in a fine introductory instrumental. Then, to my surprise, a female lead singer bursts into song. Izabella Clare definitely suits the music she is singing too and she does so with feeling and haunting grace. The alternative metal band sound like something that could really make an impact on a bigger stage and (forgive the chauvinistic attitude) with an attractive female lead singer, the sky is the limit! Just from the vocals she appeals to me on a basic level, that someone can have that haunting a voice.. you imagine a banshee, a woman with long black flowing hair and pale beauty.
Her voice is so striking that you sneakily get the idea that the band are just backing performers for a solo artist but this is quickly nullified as the guitar riff and drum solo comes into effect about three minutes into this 5 minute track. It truly is a brooding song, and the lead guitar solo is backed by some of the darkest, skankiest guitar riffing I've heard in a long time.
The band play on 'Holier Than Thou Records' label and the label name definitely suits the band style... the vocals produces ideas of gothika and darkness. The band succeeds wholly in producing this image and I wish them luck in their future exploits - including Izabella starring in a new thriller which opens the door for the band to really run the rule over the films soundtrack. The band have good prospects and a good future.
