Kill Hannah, signed up on Roadrunner records, the Alternative part-goth part-emo band hailing from Chicago have released an EP with their new single 'Boys & Girls'. They have two other tracks on it, two remixes off of the same song. First though, the original song.
It starts off with a transcendental voice in the background and some heavy guitar - the type that gets your head nodding and integrates you into the song. Then the decidedly androgynous vocals of Mat Devine comes out at you in scandalised tones - the almost childish disgust and feeling obvious - they are the kids who liked Marilyn Manson and wearing make-up, and if you didn't like it, you are the problem... these feelings of in-your-face attitude synonymous with the teenage mind is what draws many to listen to Kill Hannah.
It's fair to say this emo band appeal to a younger/unhappier generation of fans and that Devines vocals are synonymous with the voice of this generation. It's probably the reason behind their massive fan base and success. The chorus talks of the morbid link between the two sexes and, in particular, the emotionally unstable and disparate members of those sexes - (She's on amphetamines/He's a real cannibal/And Suicidal).
The song itself is going to be big amongst their fans, that’s for sure. The two remixes on the EP are done by different DJ's. A Dave Aude club remix of the song is available and captures the essence of a club song while incorporating some Kill Hannah excerpts. The other remix is done by Junior Sanchez, and he mixes this single with another Kill Hannah song, 'Lips Like Morphine' - but also to the beat of a club song. Another interesting add on to the EP, one to dabble with when the original starts to grate on you.
