The rapid speed metal of Dragonforce is something many have come to love and if it's your cup of tea, it really makes for excellent listening. I personally really like what they offer, so unlike many other bands. This single is a release from their forthcoming album 'Ultra Beatdown', which has been previously reviewed here on Rock3. The single has been released recently and the album it's released on, 'Ultra Beatdown' will be out on the 28th August. The major on running theme of all Dragonforce's hits have been songs set alongside a backing of myth and fantasy - the very song name is something that wouldn't be out of place in an RPG epic like WOW or Zelda.
The bands progressive melodic style is in clear evidence here with this song, Heroes Of Our Time. The song starts with the frantic up and down guitar bridge riff that DF love to use, and ZP Theart starts his usual melodic shrieking to the accompaniment of wailing Dragonforce guitars - all set across a backdrop of extremely fast percussion pounding by the only British member of the band, Dave Mackintosh. His job is unyielding and difficult throughout the whole song - you can imagine his arms working as blurs across a massive drum kit, sweat pouring down his face and his heavily muscled arms, while Pruzhanov caress's his keyboard like a maniac.
This song is DragonForce in their element, they speak of epic and fantastical situations, slashing their guitars as fast as humanly possible for a duration of time - five minutes! - that is inhumanly possible. For people who are fans of DragonForce, stick this song on, close your eyes and hibernate until their new album comes out - because the wait might be impossible to bear after this taster track which hits all the right notes and pounds all the right beats out into your disorientated and delirious mind.
