Feeder - Silent Cry

After sixteen years as a band and five studio albums Welsh rockers Feeder have thrown themselves into this new release, Silent Cry. It’s been two years since the band released a best-of album, something you might expect from a group considering retirement but lead singer Grant Nicholas says that’s the last thing they’re looking to do.

The band have been through turbulent times when in 2002 original drummer Jon Lee committed suicide leaving the band with a big decision – to call it a day or to carry on and with the addition of Mark Richardson that’s what they did. This event has inevitably affected the band particularly in the lyrics of Tracing Lines: "today's the day I've found a new way out, set my spirit free".

Although never reaching #1 in the singles charts they have achieved three UK platinum awards, two gold awards and one silver. In addition to this they’ve had 24 top 75 singles and eight top 75 albums. If that were not enough they’ve also won Kerrang! Best British live act (2001) and best British band (2003).

Silent Cry is a continuation of the quality we’ve come to expect while taking a heavier route and fitting better in the Rock genre than Pop. Grant calls it ‘a step towards fulfilling what is left to achieve for the band, but also a step towards their roots’ and long time fans will know exactly what he means. There are no upbeat pop anthems like Buck Rogers but it’s a rounded rock album that offers something both for newcomers and those who have followed the band for the last sixteen years.
