Death Metal merchants Knights of the Abyss had a hard upbringing, spawned in Glendale, in Arizona where their seems to be an over abundance of death metal and death core Bands KOTA have had to compete hard to get noticed and after touring hard for two years where they honed their metal to a sharp edge KOTA got signed by Ferret records where the band recorded their debut album 'Shade' .
The album has twelve tracks of death metal mainly melodic modern angular riffery and quite often fused with rhythms that you can chant too and some great guitar, the songs not only differ from each other which keeps it interesting but the songs themselves employ moments of gear change with slow spots and extra fast tempo in short the album has a bit of everything and each style that gets used, gets done rather well.
Opening the album with a little intro we get down to business with the second tune 'A New Darkened Faith’ which bursts out of the blocks with thrash speed before breaking into a salvo of explosions that steadies down into a stream of barking melodic death metal that will have you nodding
your shirt off, the album continues in this vein throughout, the tracks that stand out could be 'Whorrer Storm' for its melodic rhymes 'Running Out Of Earthly Wealth' for its short sharp riffs, but this is an album that you can play again and again without getting over familiar and bored with, certainly one worth while to play long, loud and hard.
