The third album from Down 'Over The Under' has been out for nearly a year now and it has been steadily selling well and improving the bands standing, so much that the members of Down are talking about getting together from their respective bands and hanging out to record a forth album, and if they can maintain or improve the quality they may yet earn the name 'supergroup' because the five members from Down are no other then respected members of 'Superjoint, Soilent Green, Eyehategood, Crowbar, Kingdom Of Sorrow, Arson Anthem, Viking Down and the late Pantara.
So what do these heavy weight metal artists get out of the sideline known as 'DOWN', well from all accounts they get together get wasted and write music while induced, and guess what, they play heavy stoner metal but these guys know how to string a guitar and hang a hook while creating some glorious riffs all done to a typical daze of background stoner fuzz. This type of metal can sound even better if you join the band in meditation.
Opening this twelve track album with 'Three Sons and One Star' a massive head nodding riff huge swinging drum beats and multi layered distorted vocals it will have you gasping like a fish on your doobrie. When the second track belch's in with its southern drag grooves you find yourself chanting along with the lyrics, nice and heavy boys with a little bit of slow fret play. The pace picks up with N.O.D and reverts to another couple of killer riffs for the mainstay of the song, and why not.
So all in all the album repeats the first three tracks with standard stoner fuzziness throughout but the songs mixing it up with steady big skins with the odd hand grenade thrown in for those who are flagging, guitar riffs that are good enough to be remembered, and swinging between southern style bluesy melodies through to full blown sludgy metal, all in all a satisfactory album to own and listen too, the good thing is that the quality is in every song and is worthy output from the big names who collaborated on it
