Alkaline Trio's latest offering Agony & Irony is the first wholly new disk of new material since Crimson released in 2005. Having moved labels from Vagrant to Epic (or V2 in the UK) the same band is stuck to the same dark subjects that made them so loved among fans.
Agony & Irony is a twelve track piece of mastery for existing fans and has received great reviews from the rock press (4.5/5 Rolling Stone) but it's not work that will bring them level with the stadium playing My Chemical Romance who explore a similar dark theme. Opening track 'Calling All Skeletons' is the most radio friendly with sing-a-long hooks that much of the other songs lack.
If your a fan of Alkaline Trio you will love this album, it doesn't break new ground but why should it? Alkaline Trio have their own sound and it has served them well.
There is a 2cd set with extra bonus material available for those who can't get enough of their wonderful stuff.

Bought this yesterday and am loving it. I wasn't a huge fan of the side project Matt Skiba did in the middle, it was basically Alkaline Trio sans the awesome.
I just had a listen for myself and agree with most of what you said in your review, it's them doing what they do best, nothing new but nothing worse either.
