Playing a type of mid atlantic pop/punk but with an English desire to be melodic rather then jerky puppet pop 'A Broken Robert' bring forth their debut EP to the world with four songs of interesting quality. The vocals project emotional tones that is called in this fashion obsessed world 'Melodramatic' (now that emo has a bad name) and are done rather well matching the sentiments of the lyrics.
The band are a young outfit from Southend -on - sea which is as unlikely a place to come from as any. Its been just over a year since the band performed their first gig and they have worked hard and come a long way to get four decent songs written and recorded and ready for release in July this year.
The EP opens with 'Elliot' a character who is as sweet and as gentle as the music that accompanies it, and a worthy opener for a 'melodramatic' band to perform. 'Hey You Space Ranger' the second song continues with the gentle sentiments but includes some multiple melodies that creep in to catch you unawares. 'All Here' the third song and Smoke,Smoke,Smoke suddenly they all remind me of ''The Cure' with its hidden melodies and lyrical sentiments. A decent and perhaps lovely EP that has balance and quality, do they have the ability to write another twenty songs?, I hope so.
