RedBoxBlue have an innovative approach to showcasing their talent, and have been noted for being ’the first to...’ on a few occasions now, but this one is a real break through. Five days on Facebook is exactly that – live gigs over five days on the worldwide social networking site. The band has marketed this well on the lead up to the release of their debut single ‘I Try’, and although I was unable to catch the gigs on the first couple of nights, finding myself at home on a Saturday night I thought I’d attending their gig dressed only in my PJs. Not a pretty sight, but I digress.
The studio setting was kept simple, and the lads looked slightly nervous as they began their five tracks, twenty minute performance. By the second tune ‘Lonely When You Leave Me’ they appeared more relaxed and were jumping about and using their space whilst playing some quality guitar riffs. Lovely harmonies were displayed on ‘Need to Find You’, but it was ‘I Try’ that had me truly speechless. You may recall reading my review on this track previous to release. It is still one of the best ballads I have heard all year, but watching Jonathan sing whilst looking into the camera through his floppy fringe, his big brown eyes filled with emotion, I realised I was no longer breathing. Hold on a moment whilst I try to regain a professional decorum...
Having now seen these guys play live, I am very keen to witness them in the flesh (steady now) so I’m hoping that this Facebook venture will springboard them into gigs across the country. Do not fear if you missed any of these performances, there is a link on their MySpace page so you can still catch a show. They played a different set for each show, and which ever one you see will be a real treat. ‘I Try’ is available to download from today through iTunes, and for the full review for this track, follow the link below. Should you chose to download it will be the best 79p you spend today.
