With the rapidly emergent wave of indie bands gracing the airwaves and live music circuit at the moment, there is more pressure than ever before for this type of band to truly make their mark and stand out amongst the masses. Revellers Riot effortlessly blend the indie and punk genres to create a sound that gives them their own element of individuality. One of the stand out tracks from the Myspace recordings has to be the infectiously catchy Only Human. Vocally, the verse sections in this track echo the snarling tones of Clash front man Joe Strummer and give the song its nostalgic feel. Although there are distinctive influences present in the music, it’s refreshing to see this vocalist not only finding his own voice, but his refusal to fall into the sinking mud of fake accents that many other indie artists have hopelessly descended into. Only Human has everything that makes up a good pop tune, a catchy hook that is guaranteed to swim around your head for days to come, and a strong melody that can be played over and over again without losing its magic. This stunning summer anthem could be defined as the lovechild of legendary 90’s veterans Neds Atomic Dustbin and would be great to see performed live.
