I was lucky enough to head down to the Nottingham Rock City recently to the Kerrang Tour 2008 with the review to check out Fightstar.
It’s obvious that in the last few years the ‘stigma’ that Charlie’s past held has been wiped from Fightstar’s reputation as the crowd were in their hands from first to last. The heavier sound Fightstar have adopted goes down a storm and easily generates the biggest pit of the night despite not being the headliners.
When the recent single DeathCar begins, the screams of Simpson send those in the mosh pit flying, the last thing you’d have expected several years ago.
I once caught Fightstar at a small rock store playing acoustic and found them to be fairly shy, being so close to the crowd that had yet to forget Busted seemed to have them worried. This was clearly not the case tonight as they were brimming with confidence as they took ownership of the stage.
The new single ‘Floods’ goes down equally as well with its Muse like piano opening, it possibly didn’t get the biggest reaction of the night but once it has been released and gets known that will change.
I had been unsure on how the new album would sound live; the mastering gives it a massive atmosphere which can be hard to pull off at a show. Unfortunately It wasn’t there but then I was looking for it, everyone else was too busy shoving there friends around, “exactly as I should be” I thought. Ten minutes later it was over and I was able to stagger to the bar, breathing heavily, and order one more drink, Fightstar have come a long way this past three years and I was pleased that I have caught them when they are still on the up, the band put on a good show and the best thing was that every song was a great song with the crowd loving it by giving the guys a big roar with every song, Charlie certainly knows how to whip an audience.
Editors Note:
Please forgive the lack of pictures, Tom ‘THE GENIUS’ took a camera but failed to check the batteries.
