I always was an album person, if I had to possess music it had to be the album, if a band
were a one hit wonder and the single was good I would buy the album and end up
appreciating what the band were trying to do. While I waited for the Adverts to bring out
an album, they just kept churning out the singles and finally I was really chuffed that they stuffed all the singles on the album 'Crossing The Red Sea With The Adverts', all that is except the most famous 'Looking Through Gary Gilmore’s Eyes'.
So when I had the chance to have a copy of the Album performed Live by the very man who wrote and sung the songs it was my own special christmas. TV Smith doesn’t disappoint with his vocal articulation of his songs, and although his balls have dropped as well as his voice most of the songs stand the test of time which is a credit to their originality.
The DVD opens with a video interview for a couple of minutes with BB Quattro the Bass player from the Spanish punk band 'Los Quattro’s who were supporting and renamed for the gig 'The Bored teenagers' but I give them their due they played it spot on and I raise my bottle to 'em, the quality of the video recording is also tip top.
The Gig opens with 'One Chord Wonders' with Smith giving it plenty in front of a full house
at the 100 club in London and over the next 50 minutes or so rampages through the whole
album plus an extra five songs.
TV and the band do the original material justice with their sharp but simple lyrics, none
of that fancy winging or complicated story telling that so many bands try and do, just
nice and simple sharp lyrics that smack you between the eyes and ram down your throat before you regurgitate them back in harmony with Smithy. A great DVD of a legendary album sung with belief and gusto by the man himself. I can't think of any reason why anyone would not want to rush out and buy it.. so just f*cking do it.
