Grenouer - Try

Grenouer are a band formed in 1992 as a death metal band and have evolved over the years a sound that can best be described as Techno Metal but with strong death metal tendencies in the lyrics and the way the lyrics are put across. Grenouer do not limit themselves to one genre as the album 'TRY' shows, the bands talents have been used in various styles of recording befitting a band that has been together for fifteen years. Grenouer are currently featuring two songs on a big budget video game 'Adrenalin 2:Rush Hour' and over the years have released four full albums and a clutch of EP's. If you are into Euro techno Metal then you will love this release with its heavy repetative riffs utilising not just guitar but some strong electro keyboard sounds that are heavily used in track eight 'The Message' and track Nine 'Shut MY Eyes' where the band experiments with dance rhythms, reminds me of some great times I have had in Amsterdam.

This is a well blended album with enough change of directions to satisfy the harshest critic
The album comes complete with the grand intro of atmospheric hum before bursting into the techno/death track Devils Eye witch barks and roars some great sounding lyrics, not sure if its in English but what death metal lyrics are understandable anyway? the album comes with a booklet and the lyrics in English so you can grasp the sentiments easily enough, Track three is a sharp techno metal song that incorporates some electronic vocal effects alongside the death growls and once getting past the surprise it seemed to work rather well adding a dimension that raises the quality of this track.

Song four introduces the bands ability to produce a different sound and easily slip into a mudvayne sound which has some good qualities. The fifth song goes bludgeon heavy with some great licks and techno metal rules, tracks six 'Powdering Squeeze continues the techno metal but with some post metal guitar. Grenouer introduce us to a new style with 'Wanting To Be Alone' and slips into Heavy Metal with a touch of techno preciseness while IND drops the death growls and actually sings (in English) producing another surprising twist and another great song.
The album is a good shop window for the talents of this Russian act and will draw the spotlight onto Grenouer who have just finished another album and should be released later in 2008.
