I approached this album with mixed feelings. Deftones are a cult band that will always have fans, even if they were to release a poor album. However was it possible for Deftones to actually release something below par, and if so, would I really still be a fan?
It’s been nearly three years since Deftones released a studio album so some of you may have hunted down tracks on myspace, or the naughty ones among you may have downloaded the album illegally already (and we never condone this I’m afraid) either way you may already be aware but this album is at the level you expect from Deftones.
To break down each track and review them individually would ruin the experience for you, there’s nothing better than hearing great music for the first time, not knowing what to expect, so all I can do is tell you that Saturday Night Wrist is essential listening.
All I will say is ‘Pink Cellphone’ is different, very different. Infact it's quite vulgar and for me a very weak part of the album.
While the songs sometimes doesn’t stand up to past tracks (back at school, my own summer etc.) as a whole it is thoroughly enjoyable. White Pony and Around the Fur have had years to establish themselves as legendary albums throughout the rock genre, give it time and this could well be taking it’s place beside them. Deftones fans will love it, new fans will love it.
