Well, I bought this album at a rather strange impasse in my life. I had actually been exposed to Faith No More when they did King for a Day/Fool for a Lifetime, but I was so young it was just over my head at the time. I bought this record after a Saudi Arabian (cool huh?) who I was friends with in school out in Denver played it for me. That's when they clicked with me, especially the bass guitar work. I myself play bass and I love the precise, percussive attack that Billy Gould from Faith No More was always able to deliver. He could be compared to Les Claypool from Primus or Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Not only that, but Faith No More had a completely unique sound. Some songs would build only to end in psychotic noise, while others would sound like bar jazz. That's how Faith No More operated: they did whatever they wanted to do!
This record is all of the songs from their career that actually did something in the charts, and they all rock! I love these guys because they were unpredictable and talented. I hated these guys because they broke up the same year this record came out. If you want to get into Faith No More then check this out, because it showcases all of their coolest stuff with utmost coolness. There's also a really neat story of them in the cd booklet by the legendary rock writer Steffan Chirazi. They were progressive metal itself! If you like this then listen to more Faith No More because there are none comparable to them.
