CarCrashBurn are originally from South Africa, where they formed under the name Tweak in 1998. Having sold 40,000 records with 2 albums and 3 Ep’s out the band have a relatively strong history, all this without ever being signed. In 2005 the band sold up and moved over to the UK to make a name for themselves.
This self titled Ep is the first under the new name and contains 5 tracks of what is best described as pop punk ,with the possible exception of ‘Heroes’ which has an air of an Angels to Airwaves track about it.
CCB are clearly riding the new sound of pop punk, softer hooks and bigger atmospherics and that’s no bad thing. Despite the slight similarities with Angels and Airwaves they’ve avoided falling in love with themselves to produce an above par release. Garth (vocals, Guitar) has a sharper voice than you might expect, not the typical auto-tuned sound you have come to expect from a pop punk band and I can see how this might put some people off. If you’re in the business of looking for new bands you might like outside of the mainstream, Crash Car Burn should be added to your list.
