Blackie Lawless the only surviver of the original founding band members sounds in fine fetle on 'Dominator' the bands latest release. W.A.SP has mellowed their shock value over the years but Dominator don't need headlines to sell, this album has nine superb songs of metal that make the band sound as relevant as they have ever been.
The opening tune 'Mercy' starts of with a great riff and Lawless sounding good stretching his tonsils, although the sound is mid eighties Rainbow style it’s a timeless formula and when done with great vocals and the right balance of "good 'ol licks" and the trad solo two thirds into the song its like coming home. Track two ups the tempo and pulls out a few more guitar solos all excellent stuff.
I am feeling pleased to have been sent this disc. I missed the heyday of the Los Angeles bands of the mid eighties which probably helps to make this a refreshing difference. The album keeps the standard up throughout all nine songs and will appeal to pretty much most metal heads even if some will mutter that it’s not dangerous enough.
