Agankast - Walking With Angels

Walking with Angels opens with the title track and a massive riff that tells you that this is going to be good and believe me you are not let down. For the next seven minutes the band produce tortured squeals, massive fret runs and exquisite heavy chugging riffs. The dependable thing with Agankast is that their Scottish passions shine through with their music invoking pictures of Gatherings around huge fires on the moors with giant kegs of beer and the mood is then shaped into either big grins or clenched fists but always with Beer. (or is that just me?). Walking with Angels is a chant-a-along tune while the second track on this first disc of this massive double album set is pure air guitar and head pumping with the track 'Insomniac' and if you're fit and have breath enough you might even find yourself chanting "I can't sleep". Alan’s gruff vocals hits the right pace with the third song 'Little America' while the twin guitars of Ciaran and Rob duel and batter the amps with so much feedback they scream with agony. The forth track 'March To Hell' is a rally and there is only one end result, the guitars capturing the mood of no coming back and serenades the marchers to the gates of hell. The Fifth Track 'English Heart, Scottish Blood' done to a thunder riff of marching boots states the obvious of what went into building the greatest empire the world has ever seen, (not very pc but fcuk 'em) The sixth track is a little interlude before we return to the chugging heavy riffs and dancing woven guitars of old with 'Mortality' the seventh and penultimate tune on this magnificent first disc of this double album set. The last song on this CD 'Crematorium' gives lead to Alan’s vocals to let rip with grief while the guitars enhance the moment "of the end", and then half way through the duel guitars kick in soaring into the sky like swirling smoke from a burning pyre.
This is an excellent first CD from the twin album set and deserves its Title 'WALKING WITH ANGELS' and should be a stand alone album in its own right. This is pure heavy metal as it has always been and is a must have for every fan of metal alive today.
