Genin records / djevara music news

According to Genin it's still summer - the SUMMER SALE sees all CDs
from the range, including releases from The Super Nashwan Kids,
Claypigeon, Pigshackle, Frowser, Susan Acid, Silent Front, Red Nettle
and of course Djevara, with up to 50% OFF! The sale is extending
through the Autumn so there's never been a better time to get hold of
some of the best underground music London and the surrounding regions
has ever produced. What credit crunch?

Genin Records are also preparing for the release of the long-awaited
debut from Elephant Vs Leopard, whose hybrid of taught NOMEANSNO
versus HENRY-ROLLINS rock is actually physically impossible NOT to
headbang to. Live they are probably the best band I have ever seen at
The Low Fidelity Disconnect, and that REALLY is saying something.
Featuring a super-group (to those in the know) of Spike
(ex-Barrelass), Sam (Tunguska Butterfly) and Mike Freedman (Mike
Freedman, Kazumo), we're expecting the record to hit the ground on
24th November, but it'll be available for pre-order on the Genin
website before then. Like hot buns, get them while they're hot.
(Actually, they're nothing like hot buns)

Our warehouse project is going from strength to strength, with more
and more great and exciting stuff happening every week. In addition
to our showcases (the last of which featured Elephant Vs Leopard, Roll
Call For The Second Site, They Died Too Young and Dr Snaggleberry), we
now have highly recommended regular Che Kung and Wing Tsun weekends
taught by Joe Manger (details here), and (free) Art Jam on Thursdays
(details here). We also do guitar set-ups and lessons, drum lessons,
exhibitions and the warehouse is available for hire for artists,
photographers, teachers, film makers, photographers, etc.

So what do you do if the media doesn't mention any of the local
things you're actually interested in? Make your own media, of course.
Continuing in our DIY tradition, we've set up The Disconnected.
Though not yet "officially" released, Djevara mailing list members can
take a sneak peek at our new Blog site - The Disconnected,
which will feature news, articles and reviews on alternative,
underground and independent art, music and thinking.

After a bit of a break from playing live, we're absolutely chuffed to
be playing two shows this coming week.

The first one will see us playing a set at "Robb's Gig", the third
anniversary show of Robb Fraser, a talented old friend of the band's
who died tragically in 2005. This one's going to be very special,
with Djevara following up an "unplugged" set last year for the full
(very loud) shebang this month! This one's certainly going to be
another emotional one, full details here:

... and then we return to Croydon for HERE BE MONSTERS, Andy K
(Pigshackle)'s demented, eclectic and (most probably) brilliant
two-day all-day extravaganza!

Taking place Friday 19th - Sunday 21st September, "Here Be Dragons
Too" (see what he did there with the title? Ahhhh!)... "A weekend of
diverse live music featuring punk, alternative, acoustic, jazz and
classical acts." which will feature Ten Foot Nun, Babar Luck, Rob
Cushman, London Mozart Players - "Considered one of the best chamber
orchestras anywhere", Tagara and more... it's gonna explode!

It's here:

See you at the front...

Djevara would like to pass on condolences to John and Jill Clay, and
all those who knew Rik Clay who very sadly passed away recently. A
talented and complex young man, Rik was originally the guitarist in
the band FULC, mates of ours from up north who we played with on a
number of occasions. The music lives on.

Fantastic bands you may not have heard of but really should be
checking out right now: Thumpermonkey Lives!, Popular Workshop,
Torche, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Elephant Vs Leopard. Google,
Myspace, do whatever you need, just listen to something that's not on
your radio.
