Watch the New video from You Me At Six and the latest single 'Jealous Minds Think Alike on Rock3
It’s been a hell of a year for Surrey quintet You Me At Six and they are showing no signs of slowing down. The band completed a 21-date sold out UK tour, appeared at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals and their next UK tour – set to take place this October – has just gone on sale. It will see them play their biggest venues to date, including London’s notorious Astoria. In the midst of all of this, You Me At Six are releasing their much anticipated debut album – Take Off Your Colours – on October 6 through Slam Dunk Records.
A year in the making, Josh Franceschi (vocals), Max Helyer (guitar), Matt Barnes (bass), Chris Miller (guitar) and Dan Flint (drums) have established themselves as a staple within the young, exuberant pop / rock UK scene. By the time the release will hit retailer’s shelves, You Me At Six will have released 4 singles, gone on 7 UK tours, played 4 festivals and been nominated for two Kerrang! Awards -- Best British Newcomer (2007) and Best British Band (2008).
A collection of 13 anthems for our time, Take Off Your Colours reflects the changing musical landscape within the current UK rock scene. No longer are most bands striving to go back to their hardcore roots. They are influenced by bands such as Fall Out Boy and Paramore, who still belonging to the scene have incorporated an element of pop into their guitar heavy song writing to produce Radio One worthy hits.
All of the fan favourites feature on the record including Gossip, Save It For The Bedroom and If I Were In Your Shoes – the first three You Me At Six single releases and long-standing tracks on the band’s popular MySpace page. New track Jealous Minds Think Alike is also sure to win their fans over with its adrenaline fuelling introduction and powerful sing-along chorus. Title track Take Off Your Colours is another hit, less upbeat than other numbers the chorus still makes its listeners want to head bang along whilst on You’ve Made Your Bed (So Sleep In It) Franceschi honestly sings, “You’ve made your bed, so sleep in it… The games that girls will play makes me move away so I can train, train myself to trust again.”
If You Run is possibly the heaviest track on the album while Tigers And Sharks is a beautiful ballad and both feature Franceschi delivering his lines with great intensity. The gem on this album however, is Always Attract. An acoustic number, its stripped down nature showcases his voice at its best and the maturity of his song writing. A testament to You Me At Six’s desire to experiment with their music, they thrived upon the challenge to do something different and unexpected. The long player ends with their usual end of set favourite, The Rumour. An epic track, it always leaves their hordes of fans wanting more…
