Politically astute, culturally diverse rock troupe DORP release their debut album 'Humans Being' on Sept 15th via Caned & Able Records. The record's front cover has proved to be an interesting artistic endeavor, and not for any reason you might guess.
Designed by Dorp's own frontman, South African born Piet Bez, it was created by mixing equal slithers from 25 random photos of men and women to create one 'amalgamated' face. The strange thing? Well, no matter how many different combinations of faces were tried, the resulting visage ALWAYS came back looking like Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles.
Have Dorp accidentally stumbled across a universal, biological truth? Is this a convention shattering, genetics breakthrough? Is Chris Moyles the next - or last - evolutionary step? We don't know. But it's bloody weird. Despite numerous permutations the only 'impact' that could be had on the face was changing the ratio in favour of women over men. But it STILL looks like Chris Moyles... just a bit thinner. (Does this mean that Chris should be getting in touch with his feminine side?) All in all it has been a strange artistic experiment that has thrown up a brain melting mystery. Is Chris Moyles the archetypal everyman? And, subsequently, is God truly a DJ?
Dorp will precede the launch of the 'Humans Being' album, with a double 'A' Side single ('Pigs Do Fly'/'Cops And Robbers') on Sept 9th, also through Caned And Able Records. Currently gearing up for an extensive bout of touring to promote 'Humans Being', the band can be seen at the following warm-up shows:
