The final piece of the jigsaw is finally in place and Metallica have now revealed that their hugely anticipated new album entitled ‘Death Magnetic’ will be released in the UK and the rest of the world on September 12th 2008.

Also, for you collector types out there Metallica have put together something special for when “Death Magnetic” is released.
A special edition box in the shape of a coffin will come out on the same day as the album. It will include the full CD; along with everything cool relating to “Death Magnetic”.

Inside the box there will be a CD with the demos of the songs plus a DVD of even more “making of the album” footage not seen on the band’s new website, Mission: Metallica. There will also be a t-shirt which is only available in this box, a flag, guitar picks, and a fold out poster along with a collector’s credit card embossed with a code to redeem a free download of a special European show happening in September (full details coming soon!).

Metallica will also be hosting a couple of bashes in September, via their websites Metallica.com and MISSION: METALLICA To celebrate the release of “Death Magnetic” the band thought it would be cool to hang with a few of their closest friends in some of their favourite cities.

On September 12th in Berlin, Germany and on September 15th in London, they will be hosting a little bash to celebrate the blessed event of the upcoming addition to the Metallica family/catalogue.

There will be a live band (that would be them!) and tickets will only be available to MetClub members and Mission: Metallica members.

The band also headlines Leeds (August 22nd) and Reading (August 24th) festivals.

Metallica have announced their tenth studio album, Death Magnetic, will be released globally on Friday, September 12th 2008.
News about Death Magnetic has been flowing out of Metallica’s camp via the band’s official website ( Metallica.com ) and a brand-new site, MISSION: METALLICA, which offers users a unique, ground-breaking look-in on the making of the album, with producer Rick Rubin. Fans who can’t wait for the September 12th release date will be able to access a digital-edition version of the album, to be delivered at midnight on release day, by joining the free site, which launched on May 29th. Missionmetallica.com features a treasure trove of exclusive content, including the low-down from the band members themselves about their progress in the studio via fly-on-the-wall video footage, live concerts downloads, exclusive new and never-before-seen archival photos from the studio, contests to fly to foreign lands to see the band perform and much much more.

Metallica are currently finishing up the mixing and mastering of Death Magnetic. The cover art and full-track-listing (below) have been posted at missionmetallica.com, where fans can purchase the album plus web content in various configurations. Users should continue to check the site for the chance to win tickets and meet-and-greet passes to Metallica’s live concert events this summer. The band played a sold out show to 65,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in July 2007 and this year will be headlining the Leeds and Reading Festivals on August 22nd and 24th respectively. They have also just announced they will be making appearances at two special fan shows to launch the album in Berlin (Sept 12th) and London (Sept 15th) – venues still tba.

Death Magnetic is Metallica’s first studio album since 2003’s multi-platinum St. Anger, which hit No. 1 in 30 countries and has sold nearly six million copies worldwide. Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica has become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 100 million albums worldwide and playing to millions of fans the world over. They have garnered numerous awards and accolades, including seven Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards. In addition, their 1991 album, Metallica, which has sold 15 million copies in the United States alone, has been awarded the prestigious "Diamond Award" from the Recording Industry Association of America, given to those albums with U.S. sales of 10 million or more.
