Since their earliest beginnings, Manchester’s I-DEF-I have been drawing from a well that’s waters are tight, heavy and groove laden, refining their sound into the cacophonic metallic maelstrom it is today. The band’s formative days saw heavy gigging across the UK as well as the recording and self-release of two demo EP’s. With more and more fans being brought into the fold from their busy live schedule, and MP3’s on
I-DEF-I | In the Light of a New Day taking thousands of downloads monthly, I-DEF-I went on to secure high profile support slots with the likes of Stone Sour, Viking Skull, One Minute Silence, and tours with Killing Joke and Fear Factory. A blistering set at September 2004’s ‘IN THE CITY’ music festival in Manchester led to an outbreak of webzine/fanzine praise over October and November 2004, including a ‘Featured Artist Of The Month’ award on respected USA based webzine ‘The East Coast Romper’. Endorsements from companies such as Ibanez, Line 6 and Warwick were soon to follow.
January ‘05 saw an uncompromisingly brutal set at the inaugural ‘Preload’ night at London’s Metro Club (a monthly showcase by the organisers of the Download Festival) setting the tone for what was to become a relentless schedule of live shows. This coincided with the release of Org Record’s ORGAN RADIO 21 compilation, featuring live favourite ’When Venus Sends A Black Rose’ , a track that had already begun to receive regular airplay on the BBC’s Radio One Rock Show.
In the midst of a barrage of dates around the UK during February, including a support with scene luminaries Twin Zero, I-DEF-I were called in to BBC’s Maida Vale Studios to record what transpired to be an intense and emotional live session for The Rock Show. With I-DEF-I fast becoming a name on the tongues of industry and fans alike, freshly recorded tracks from the intense yet poignant ‘A Curse Beneath the Surface’ EP broke through on Radio One, XFM, Kerrang Radio, P3 Rock (Sweden), and were featured as part of a live interview on Manchester based station FUSE FM. In late March 2005 the band self-released the six track EP, which sold well both at shows in the UK and online to mainland Europe, Australia and the USA.
In June/July 2005 I-DEF-I undertook its debut UK headline tour, packing out respected venues such as Camden Barfly and Ashton Witchwood. The day the tour ended they entered the studio to start work on new mini-album ’Bloodlust Casualty’, whilst still continuing to gig inexorably across the UK between studio sessions, including a support slot with Mindless Self Indulgence to a sold out hometown crowd. During October 2005 an early mix of new track ‘Devil In The Vein’ was sent to industry and made available for playback on
MySpace.com - I-DEF-I - Manchester, UK - Metal / Alternative / Rock - www.myspace.com/idefi taking over 1,000 plays in it’s first 24 hours online.
Further airplay and praise from the Radio One Rock Show and XFM also followed.
In February 2006 I-DEF-I released their debut Mini Album ‘Bloodlust Casualty’ which quickly became the fastest selling release on Copro/Casket Records. Undertaking heavy touring in support of the record 2006 has already seen I-DEF-I support Breed 77 on a full UK Tour, grace the stage of the Mean Fiddler for ‘Rock London’ and open the Myspace/Gibson Stage @ Download Festival 2006 to a packed tent.
With full length headline tours of the UK booked for both June and October and a full length album to be recorded in September, the rest of the year will see I-DEF-I maintain both their relentless work ethic and
rise in profile.
