Bio:
Someone once said …''the only good thing to come out of East Anglia was the A12 to London'… maybe that was before 2002? In late 2002 a group of friends, all aged 14, forged ‘Devolution’ (later to be named Sanctorum). Throughout 2003 they concentrated on writing original material and supporting local bands at gigs in the Colchester area culminating at the end of 2003 with a self financed four track debut EP CD entitled 'Penumbra'.
Throughout 2004/05 as 'Devolution' they continued to write and gig around the eastern region during which time 'Penumbra' received very positive reviews from many Webzines including Dukesters’Meltdown, Gigs Unlimited and Raw Nerve Promotions and benefited from steady sales at gigs and through local independent and chain record stores. Spurred on by the reviews of their debut EP, the band continued to write, gig and complete their education. In September 2005 ‘Devolution’ changed their name to ‘Sanctorum’ to avoid confusion with other bands of the same name.
Late in 2004 ‘Sanctorum’ began work on another fully self financed project, a six track ‘mini’ album. As recording progressed, whenever finances permitted and studio time became available, a decision was made to ‘add’ to the ‘mini’ album four more tracks and release a ‘full length’ album. The finished album entitled ‘The Heavens Shall Burn’ with its youthful but mature British Metal slant, was released in the UK at the end of Sept. 2006 through Rising Records, takes influences from: Arch Enemy, Lamb Of God, In Flames, Chimaira, Metallica and Dream Theater.
In January 2006 with the recording of the album completed ‘Sanctorum’ hit the road as official support on Mendeeds’ nationwide ‘This war will last forever’ tour receiving very positive feedback from fans and press alike. The album is currently receiving very positive reviews (3ks in Kerrang, an 'Incoming bands' piece in the November 06 issue of Metal Hammer, pieces in Terrorizer and Powerplay magazines and good webzine reviews) .It has also achieved airplay on several internet and specialist music radio stations in the UK, USA and Europe.
The bands debut video; 'Ancient Words', has recently received playlisting on MTV2s ’Headbangers Ball’.
Sanctorum have appeared alongside;
Napalm Death, Still Remains, Engle, Biomechanical, Evile, Omnium Gatherum, Forever Never, Mendeed, Gutworm, Murder 1, The More I See, etc....
