Velvet Revolver exploded onto the worldwide music scene in 2004 with their critically and commercially acclaimed debut “Contraband”. The album has since gone on to sell almost 3 million copies worldwide and notch up some hugely impressive statistics including a USA No 1 album (with the largest ever week one sales of a debut album from a rock act in US chart history). The band also proved themselves to be a fearsome live act, a series of sell out UK tours culminating in a performance on the London stage of Live 8 on the 2nd July 2005.
Following the release of their stunning second album “Libertad”, released through Columbia Records on the 2nd July 2007, Velvet Revolver are set to tour the UK in March 2008.
“Libertad” is a hugely impressive album, a band at its very best. From the staccato pop sensibilities of first single “She Builds Quick Machines” to the fist in your face riffing of “Let It Roll”, from rousing ballad “Gravedancer” to the sweeping chorus’ of “The Last Fight”, from the drum groove of “Get Out The Door” to the Slash trademark riffing of “Pills, Demons & Etc”. This is an album that rocks with the best but is packed to overflowing with melody, harmony and beautifully crafted songs. The trademark powerful rock of Slash, Duff, Dave Kushner and Matt Sorum overlaid with intricate and compelling vocals from Scott Weiland. “Libertad” was produced by Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, Bruce Springsteen).
The band is made up of ex Guns ‘n’ Roses members’ guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum, ex Stone Temple Pilots (a multi-million selling US rock band) vocalist Scott Weiland and ex Electric Love Hogs, Infectious Grooves, Spread (Janes Addictions Dave Navarro’s band) guitarist Dave Kushner. To be able to see this band is a true privilege – rock and roll as it should be.
