Enter 2007 and the best way the band could've rang in the new year - signing to the newly formed U.K label Total Impact Records, the first signing to be taken on by the label. With their debut album released in May along with a full blown tour of the U.K it is time for people to sit up and recognise Strain as the old school, straight up, balls out metal band they are.
PRESS:
their self titled debut album is a ferociously entertaining slab of sledgehammer sludge that wears its souce material with pride. taking their cues from the low slung grooves and beard friendly belligerence of down and black label society, and that folks, is what top-notch heavy metal is all about.
METAL HAMMER:
An unapolegetic musical battering ram, strain come on like they mean to draw blood, think of the downtuned grit of black label society coupled with the grisly power of early pantera
KERRANG
"This band could seriously challenge to be true rulers, It is that good".
8 / 10 METAL HAMMER
"A crash-course in southern rock groove"
KERRANG
Bolton's Strain have recorded an album of swinging grooves and guitar-shredding funk ability that's a pleasure to listen to. Imagine a collaboration between Down, Cathedral and Electric Wizard, Great stuff.
TERRORIZER
Sounding like the illegitimate lovechild of Sabbath and Pantera, Sounding more Louisiana than Lancashire, you'd be forgiven for thinking this was mid-era Pantera demo tapes if it weren't for the Iommi-esque inflections and fills which firmly stamp British metal all over the album, a total and utter dedication to creating the most crushing, groove-laden metal with scant regard for trends or scenes., it's all about the groove.
ROCK SOUND
The debut album from these metalheads is colossal. Along with the likes of Charger and Murder One, Strain are heading the uprising of British metal!
BIG CHEESE MAGAZINE
oh boy... this is a suprising treat! This first full lenghth album is a potential classic, imagine pantera, rage against the machine and black sabbath, not since audioslave has a band been so funky, rythmic and heavy as shit!
POWERPLAY MAGAZINE
"If you like bands with a big heavy groove like pantera and corrosion of conformity you'll like strain"
BRUCE DICKINSON BBC RADIO 6 ROCKSHOW
The boozed-up brutal behemoth from Bolton that is Strain, have created an impressive debut album with all the confidence, swagger and class of seasoned metal veterans.
Imagine the blues-based evil riffs of Black Sabbath distilled through the aggression of Pantera and you are half way there already, but don’t get the impression that Strain aren’t original, they have certainly got their own style.
// musicxtra.net
Wonderful darkly oldschool Doombluesthrash which Could be from Louisiana`s swamps, class!
==- Heavy-Metal-Heaven.de -== Metal-Portal
There's a lot of stoner metal influece, thrash with low-end groove, lots of bluesy guitar and well-placed widdle.
similar to stuff such as corrosion of conformity and place of skulls, strain show a lot of promise
PURE METAL
Why the fuss? Black Label Society, My Ruin, Lamb Of God, Down, you know we just love our metal down and dirty here at Planet Loud so Strain are right up our street.
These Northern monkeys will have the sweat dripping off your hair as the metal is cranked to the max following on from the work started by bands like Charger, Raging Speedhorn and Murder One.
