Hey! Your new album ‘Downburst’ is soon to be released. How are things in the BRIANSTORM camp right now?

Pretty good! I think we recorded our best album so far and after more than 2 ½ years of waiting we can’t wait to hit the road again. So, to be very honest…we expect 2008 to become one of the most exciting years in BRAINSTORM history!


There was an upfront EP called ‘Fire Walk With Me’. Why did you choose that song?

After the success of the song ‘All those word’ from our previous album ‘Liquid Monster’ a lot of people were afraid that we could become too soft, or the next album would feature more female vocals aso. So we decided on ‘Fire walk with me’ as this track shows from the very first second on, that we have stayed true to our roots and are still heavy! Also this track expresses all the best aspects BRAINSTORM stands for in 2008: power, strength, aggression, but also melody! Funny also btw: a lot of people say we could have chosen any song off the album…as they are all amazing, ha ha.


Please tell us some words about ‘Downburst’. What is it that makes it special and outstanding within your own discography and the whole genre?

After ‘Metus Mortis’ in 2001, I think ‘Downburst’ now opens something like a new chapter for us. We stretched our borders, changed a few things and discovered ourselves in a new way. I don´t see ourselves as a –so called- power metal band. I see ourselves just as a metal band with some traditional but also modern trademarks. ‘Downburst’ is maybe the album a lot of “Metal-Fans” have been waiting for since years, as they always got promised by some other bands they would get the real one. ‘Downburst’ IS the real one, and I think whatever kind of metal you like…this album has everything you like about Metal!


Last year you were pretty busy with your DVD, the reissues of ‘Hungy’ and ‘Unholy’ and the writing and recording process of ‘Downburst’. How did you manage it all?

Wow, that was quite difficult, and took some sleepless nights. But in the end it was absolutely worth it! The fact that the rest of the guys spent a lot of time on the re-releases helped me to concentrate a bit more on the DVD. But in the end, during the daytime, we worked on the DVD,…and in the evening or at night, we wrote and arranged new songs.


How do you explain the fact that you are so successful in Hungary where ‘Fire Walk With Me’ was ranked #1 in the single charts?

To be very honest...I have no idea! But it´s amazing to see how they´re freaking out on the track. After so many years of fighting against other metal bands, in Hungary we now have to fight RHIANNA or 50CENT. We´re on a mission,..a crusade…hahaha!


You planned to do a co-headlining tour with EVERGREY. But they were forced to cancel. Why? How happy are you with the new billing with our own POWERWOLF and PAGANS MIND?

Yep, that was really sad and I was really shocked when I received the message. Okay, they have no deal so far and the album won’t be ready in time, but I think together with PAGAN’SMIND and POWERWOLF we have another strong package for many fans out there. I´m really happy to have them with us. But anyway,.. all fans will be blown away by our new show.


How would you describe ‘Downburst’ with only three words?

Ok, I´ll try: epic, melodic ballbreakers! But in the end I can describe it in one word: BRAINSTORM!
