cool, who said there are no real punks anymore!... a collection of old and new I also remember the days of old and the days of free gigs, festivals..seeing the Clash, and the Sham69 now I get my kicks from hardcore emo and blah blah I digress.. anything to keep this thick blood racing and the passions oiled.
I remember it well as I was there that day It was an Anti Nazi march (against racialism) I had gone there with my mate and new bird ( we later slept in a magistrates spare bedroom that night on silk sheets!.. but another story ) Jimmy Pursey was guesting and couldn't stay of the stage joining in all the time.. Joe strummer had done his voice in and was struggling to sing which is why Jimmy took over lead vocals with the Clash for the day ( jimmy in the stripped top on vocals) the Clash done about five tunes as thats all Jimmy knew.
X-rayspec were on earlier and 'Polysterene' had blown the amp with her high voice and screams so the organisers had to gobble extra kit togeather for the show to continue... I was rat arsed by 9 in the morning on punks favourite gear CIDER (Brew took over later along with the 'convoy' and the drugs..another story..) By 11 o'clock we were having some running fights with skinheads and chased off the right wing torie scum, John Lyndon was mooching about with a hat hiding his green hair, the gig started about eleven.
I left the girly ( hi ya Frankie.. hows California?..) on the outskirts of the front stage crowd and pushed my way in and was standing with my mate about twenty feet out from the stage and got my ears stabbed with 'Poly's' vocals... we also had the Tom Robinson band unfortunatly he got bombed with some bottles and **** but good on him he stood his ground and done his gig and the boo boy's soon ****ed off, Steel Pulse were on as well and later went on to make some fantastic albums and earned a great rep...great gig and great day. Enjoy this little video
thats what punks about, it's awesome. Having something to rally around, get passionate about and a reason to fight. The British working class love a fight, fact.
Anyone who says they're a punk fan better know about the clash.
to be honest, I have no idea. I've got them on vinyl, the album "Too fat to run, too stupid to hide". I've never looked for them on the net. There's got to be some sort of punk search engine you could track them down on. They might be on myspace but I doubt it.
There is some good storys here guys, I missed the seventies but had some fun in the ninties going to punk gigs, you can't beat 'em for energy and having a laugh
