Beverley Folk Festival Confirm Major Line Up

Beverley Folk Festival Confirm Major Line Up

June 20th - 22nd

Beverley Folk Festival is expecting a massive demand for tickets after three of its major acts booked to appear at this year’s event swept the board at the BBC RADIO 2’s FOLK AWARDS.

MARTIN SIMPSON scooped Best Album and Best Original Song, ANDY CUTTING won Best Musician while rising stars on the scene RACHEL UNTHANK & THE WINTERSET ran away with the Horizon Award for emerging new talent. Scunthorpe born Martin was also nominated for Folk Singer and Musician of the Year while Rachel was nominated for three other awards, Best Group, Best Album and Best Live Act.

Festival Organiser Cally Barker said “We are delighted that our festival programme will combine such a mix of experienced and new talent on the folk scene. There will be something for everyone at this 25th birthday extravaganza.”

Artists confirmed include legendary English punk rockers, Buzzcocks, Dave Swarbrick’s Whippersnapper, which is reforming to celebrate the festival’s anniversary. 25 years ago the festival’s headline act included local artists The Waterson’s, this year Waterson:Carthy with family member Mike Waterson will revisit the festival, as will Michael McGoldrick and his excellent Irish band, and festival favourites Chumbawumba. Also appearing are musicians Roy Bailey and the ever charismatic Tony Benn who will perform ‘The Writing on the Wall’, a thrilling history of political dissent from the 14th Century to the present day. Bringing the weekend’s celebrations to an end will be the wonderful Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, who will be visiting Beverley for the first time. As the festival aims to encompass a broader audience and to make music of all types accessible to everyone, it is delighted to welcome to the programme , internationally acclaimed violin player, Tasmin Little, who recently announced her campaign to “meet the challenge of reaching those people who tend to switch off at the words ‘classical music’, (The Independent) . Little, aims to do this through her offer of three tracks from her latest album, ‘The Naked Violin’, free as a download from her website.

To add a lighter side to the festival we welcome for the first time the charismatic John Shuttleworth who will be bringing his documentary film “It’s Nice up North” to educate festival audiences about the merits of the North of England. Dave Tordoff will also be giving his version of the high life in Goole as seen by a laser screeding contractor! See him to believe him.

Weekend and day tickets are now on sale for the Festival – tickets for individual events will be available shortly. For more information, contact the Festival Hotline on 01377 217 569 or check out the website Front Page | Beverley Folk Festival

Relentless NASS returns to Bath and West Showground on June 13th-15th 2008

Relentless NASS returns to Bath and West Showground on June 13th-15th 2008, Relentless NASS will feature an impressive music bill boasting 35 internationally renowned acts across two live stages and the Relentless Bar.

Relentless NASS returns for its tenth consecutive year on June 13th-15th 2008 for three days of action sports and live music at the Royal Bath and West Showground in Somerset. The highly charged festival has seen crowds in excess of 15,000 attending to take in not only a premier music and sports line-up, but also an extensive trade and adrenaline village, paintball arena and climbing area. Traders selling everything from clothing to action sports equipment are set to make this year’s festival the definitive destination for any action sports and music enthusiast.

This year’s Relentless NASS marks a return to form with the festival promising fans more action sports than ever seen before, including everything from skate to FMX. The Vans European skate team will be making a welcome first appearance to the festival bringing with them local heroes and top international names. Tony Hawk protégé Jean Postec will be stepping up to try and level with his mentor by completing the near impossible fakie-to-fakie 900. The King Ramps vert ramp will also be graced by some of the best riders on the US circuit taking time out from the world renowned Action Sports Dew Tour.

Relentless NASS will also be delivering a top-end BMX course. Some of the world’s most notorious riders including UK heavyweights, Mark Webb and Dew Tour 07 victor Daniel Dhers, will be battling it out to try and take home some of the total event prize purse of over $80,000.

FMX fans will not be disappointed at this year’s Relentless NASS, UK legends Gary Taylor, Danny Veale and the Relentless UK FMX team will be taking the helm ensuring that this year’s course and prize fund will be the most competitive to date.

Alongside some top ranking action sports, Relentless NASS will feature an impressive music bill boasting 35 internationally renowned acts across two live stages and the Relentless Bar. Friday night’s outdoor stage will play host to a live set from Pendulum. The drum and bass collective hailing from Perth, Australia have been in heavy rotation on the dance and commercial circuit for the past five years, reaching critical acclaim with their debut album ‘Hold Your Colour’ in 2007. Pendulum will be supported by newcomers Late of the Pier, the four-piece are no strangers to the likes of NME, MTV2 and Channel 4’s cult show Skins. The band are taking new rave into a second season, ditching the glow sticks and reaching for the synthesizers to create heavy electro inspired indie with nods to everyone from The Cure to Klaxons. Friday will also feature Does It Offend You, Yeah? Metronomy, Ghost Frequency, Devils Gun and We Smoke Fags.

Saturday night’s will welcome some of the best names in rock and punk with headliners Less Than Jake and The Subways setting the standard with another very special band that is yet to be announced! Less Than Jake, the ska-punk five-piece veterans have been a household name on the skate and BMX scene for over 15 years spreading their sun-soaked Floridian sound worldwide, filling up stadiums, skate parks and just about every skate movie you can think of. Their headline show at NASS 08 will be their only UK date this summer and acts a welcome return to form after 6 consecutive sell-out shows in London last year. Saturday’s stage will also feature music from Elliot Minor, Beat Union, In Case of Fire, Skirtbox, *Shels and Lioness.

Relentless NASS’s music bill will be rounded off with two days of renowned drum and bass and electro in the Indoor Arena. A 3am late license has paved the way for some big name DJ’s including Eddy Temple Morris, Micky Slim, Adam F and Subfocus.

This year’s Relentless NASS will be home to a host of world class action sports and music acts, for the latest information on attendees and tickets please go to NASS

Tickets are £24.50/day and £59.50/weekend on sale now from NASS and locally from Shepton Mallet Tourist Information centre and Bristol Ticket Shop.

Less than two weeks until the Love Music Hate Racism Carnival!

12-6pm, Sunday 27th April 2008
Victoria Park, London E3
Love Music Hate Racism Carnival 2008 | Victoria Park, London

Its less than two weeks to go until the 30th anniversary commemorative Rock Against Racism gig in Victoria Park, London. Taking place on 27th April, four days before the 1st May local and GLA elections, the carnival will bring together musicians and music fans from a wide variety of genres and different generations, celebrating black, white and asian unity.

Final Lineup Confirmation

The final lineup is now confirmed and its AWESOME! The Good The Bad The Queen (Damon Albarn from Blur, Paul Simonon from The Clash and afrobeat legend Tony Allen) will headline and Akala and The View have also recently been added to the bill. See below for the complete list of artists playing. This is going to be the biggest (and best!) anti-racist event in Britain for decades, possibly ever.

Read All About Us!

The media have caught on - the Observer Review section will carry a 4,500-word cover article the Sunday before and BBC One show Sunday Life want to do live interviews from the park on the morning of the event. Don Letts' and Giorgio Testi's documentary/live film of the Carnival will be broadcast on Channel 4 at midnight on Friday 9th May, and broadcast across the MTV network from the following day. However we need more! Why not write to your local paper about coming to the Carnival?

They Came From Far And Wide

The mobilisation from across the country is looking impressive too - we know of at least 40 coaches booked, with thousands planning to come by car and train - and would like to urge more places to book a coach. Anyone who can get down to the Carnival will be inspired to get active in the anti-fascist movement after the event, including the final run-up to May 1st.

The latest flyer is available here http://www.lovemusichateracism.com/i...5w3_107_lo.pdf Please circulate this widely and let us know ASAP if you need more printed flyers and posters - anita@lovemusichateracism.com. If you or someone you know is willing to volunteer as a steward on the day please email olivia@lovemusichateracismcom.
