I agree but really genres are a way to describe what a band sounds like. If I said explain what Blink 182 sound like you'd say pop punk and I'd know pretty much what they're like.
If I said describe Mettalica you'd say metal, I'd have a good idea of what they sound like. Only the young pick a genre and curse others, they'll grow out of it
